The goal of this project was to design and develop a specialized Figma utility that replaces static placeholders with dynamic, localized sample data. Recognizing that generic "Lorem Ipsum" often hides design flaws, Data Bloom was engineered to help product teams move beyond placeholders, ensuring that mockups are robust, professional, and ready for high-fidelity testing across international markets
Design approach: • Focused on automating the population of text layers, allowing designers to replace "dummy" content with diverse, contextually-aware data with a single click • Provided support for over 10 languages and regional formats—including English, Spanish, German, and several Central Asian languages—ensuring that dates, phone numbers, and currencies are formatted according to specific local standards • Developed a logic-heavy interface that offers precise control over data output, such as gender-specific name generation, categorized product reviews by star rating, and custom date ranges.
The plugin successfully transitioned from a technical experiment to a functional tool used to streamline prototyping for global teams. By providing realistic data in the early stages of design, it allows teams to identify edge cases in text length and formatting before they reach the development phase.
What I learned: • Building for the design community requires deep developer empathy; a tool must be intuitive enough to integrate into a fast-paced workflow without adding cognitive overhead • Managing global edge cases—such as varying name structures and international phone formatting—is essential for creating products that truly serve a diverse, international user base
